Privacy Policy

ClickBook is built to keep reading activity on your device whenever possible. The app does not require an account, does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, and is designed so the text you read and tap for explanations is processed locally rather than sent to our own servers during normal reading use. The one exception is the optional Ask ChatGPT button, which passes a tapped word, the passage around it, and the names of the book's language and your mother tongue to ChatGPT, run by OpenAI, and only when you tap it. Internet access is used for limited purposes such as the one-time on-device AI model download, app-store purchase and restore flows, purchase entitlement checks, platform services, and optional backups. The mother-tongue language you pick is stored locally and shapes on-device translations and explanations; its name is also included in the prompt when you use Ask ChatGPT.

1. Controller and scope

This Privacy Policy explains how ClickBook processes information when you install and use the ClickBook mobile application, including the library, reader, vocabulary, and on-device AI features.

Mohamad Mohamad is the provider of ClickBook and, where applicable, the controller responsible for personal data processed for this app.

2. Information ClickBook processes

ClickBook does not require you to create an account and does not ask you to provide your name, payment card details, contacts, microphone input, camera input, or precise location in order to use the app.

If you buy or restore optional paid features, the store operator (Apple or Google) processes order, billing, tax, and refund data under its own privacy notice. The purchase-management provider RevenueCat processes purchase, entitlement, and technical request data on ClickBook's behalf, as its service provider. ClickBook itself does not ask you to enter payment-card data in the app.

ClickBook does not track you across apps or websites, contains no advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not itself collect the text of your books or the words you tap. The only reading text that leaves your device is what you choose to send with Ask ChatGPT (section 5). RevenueCat records your purchases, and when its purchase screen is shown, closed, or used, against the anonymous identifier, so that ClickBook can see purchase statistics.

Imported-book data, including the EPUB files and readable PDF files you choose to import, file names, local file URIs, extracted metadata such as title and author, language selection, locally generated cover images, and local reader files created from imported PDFs.
Reading activity data, including recently opened books, reading progress, section labels, saved EPUB locations, and reader display preferences.
Vocabulary data, including words you tap, surrounding context, the time of the tap, the associated book title, and generated meanings or example sentences stored in the local vocabulary history.
Settings and preference data, including reading mode, fullscreen preferences, enabled prompt settings, Pro feature settings, and the mother-tongue (AI language) you choose during first-run setup or later change in settings. This language preference is stored on your device and shapes on-device translations and explanations; its name is also included when you choose to use Ask ChatGPT.
Model delivery state and related technical records needed to start, resume, verify, or complete the one-time delivery of the on-device AI model, whether through Google Play asset packs or a direct download, which is initiated during first-run setup before the reader becomes available.
Purchase and entitlement state needed to offer, unlock, verify, or restore optional paid features such as ClickBook Pro. This includes product identifiers, entitlement identifiers, purchase and restore status, purchase history held by the store, and an anonymous app user identifier generated by RevenueCat. That identifier is a random value created on your device; it is not your name, email address, Apple ID, or Google account, and ClickBook does not link it to any identity.
Standard technical request data that may be processed by the app store, purchase-management provider, model host, content delivery network, or backup provider when you download the app, buy or restore a purchase, obtain the AI model, or use platform-managed backup services.

3. How ClickBook uses information

To import, organize, display, and open books in your local library.
To extract text from readable PDFs and create local reader files so imported PDFs can be opened in ClickBook.
To save your reading position, settings, and vocabulary history between sessions.
To generate on-device explanations, translations, and example sentences for tapped words.
To obtain, store, verify, and resume the required on-device AI model.
To offer, unlock, verify, and restore optional paid features such as ClickBook Pro.
To open ChatGPT with the tapped word, the passage around it, and the names of the book's language and your mother tongue, when you tap Ask ChatGPT and have agreed to it.
To maintain the security, reliability, and basic operation of the app.

4. Legal bases where required by law

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, ClickBook generally relies on performance of a contract or steps taken at your request to provide the features you choose to use, such as importing a file, opening a book, or saving your reading progress.

ClickBook may also rely on your consent or affirmative user action when you choose a local file through the system document picker, import a PDF, start the AI model setup, buy or restore an optional paid feature, agree to share a word and its passage with ChatGPT the first time you tap Ask ChatGPT, or enable platform-managed backup features on your device.

Where necessary, ClickBook may rely on legitimate interests in maintaining app security, preventing abuse, troubleshooting failures, and keeping the app functional.

ClickBook does not use your information for targeted advertising, does not sell personal information, and does not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

5. On-device processing and network use

Reading activity, saved books, reading progress, tapped words, and generated word explanations are designed to stay on your device during normal use. ClickBook does not send the book text you read, the words you tap, or the generated explanations to our own servers for cloud processing.

ClickBook Pro adds an optional Ask ChatGPT button to the word popup. Unlike the app's other AI features it does not run on your device, and it does nothing until you tap it. The first time you tap it, ClickBook tells you what will be sent and to whom, and opens nothing unless you agree. When it goes ahead, ClickBook opens a chatgpt.com link (in the ChatGPT app if it is installed, otherwise in your browser) that contains a prompt made of the tapped word, the passage around it, and the names of the book's language and your mother tongue. OpenAI receives that text as part of the link as soon as it opens, even before you send the message, and processes it under its own terms and privacy policy, not this one. Your browser may also keep the link in its history. ClickBook does not send anything to OpenAI itself and does not receive ChatGPT's answer.

Imported PDFs are processed locally where possible to extract readable text and create reader files. ClickBook does not upload imported PDFs to our own servers for conversion.

Internet access is used for limited operational purposes such as using Apple App Store or Google Play purchase and restore services, checking purchase entitlements through the purchase-management service RevenueCat, and using platform or backup services connected to distribution and device operation. The on-device AI model currently used is ClickBook Gemma 4 E2B multi (IQ4_XS), roughly 1.84 GB in GGUF format. On iOS it is bundled inside the app, so no model download takes place. On Android it is obtained once during first-run setup through Google Play asset packs, or, where those are not available, through a Hugging Face file URL, and again if a future update changes the model, in which case the previous model file is deleted from your device.

Your mother-tongue selection is stored on your device and never uploaded to our servers. It chooses the language of on-device translations and explanations and, when you use Ask ChatGPT, its name is included in the prompt so that ChatGPT answers in that language.

6. Permissions and device access

You can refuse optional actions such as choosing a local file, importing a PDF, setting up the AI model, buying or restoring Pro, or enabling backup, but the related feature may not work until you take that action.

ClickBook uses the system document picker only when you choose a file to import into the app.
ClickBook does not perform full-device EPUB or PDF scans and does not require Android all-files access for normal use.
If device backup is enabled, your operating system or platform backup provider may copy app data stored on the device as part of its own backup service.

ClickBook does not sell personal information and does not share personal information with advertising networks or analytics providers for cross-context behavioral advertising.
When the AI model is obtained, Google Play, the hosting provider, content delivery network, and your internet or platform provider may process standard request data such as IP address, timing, and transfer logs under their own privacy terms.
When you download, buy, update, or restore the app or optional paid features, the app store operator (Apple or Google) and the platform provider process technical and transaction-related data under their own policies, and the purchase-management provider RevenueCat processes entitlement and transaction data, including the anonymous app user identifier, on ClickBook's behalf.
When you tap Ask ChatGPT, the tapped word, the passage around it, and the names of the book's language and your mother tongue go to OpenAI through the ChatGPT link you open, and OpenAI processes them under its own privacy policy.
When platform backup is enabled, the platform provider may retain a copy of backed-up app data under that provider's own policies.
Information may also be disclosed if required to comply with applicable law, lawful requests, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

8. International processing

App distribution platforms, purchase-management providers, backup providers, and model-hosting providers may operate globally. As a result, limited technical data related to downloads, entitlement checks, purchase handling, or backups may be processed outside your country under those providers' own privacy terms.

ClickBook itself is designed so that reading content and tapped-word context are not transmitted to our own servers as part of normal offline reading and explanation use.

9. Data retention

Imported books, reader settings, reading progress, and vocabulary history remain on your device until you delete them, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
Local reader files, extracted text, and covers created from imported PDFs remain on your device until you delete the related book, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
The downloaded on-device AI model remains on your device until you remove the app or otherwise delete the model data. Because it can always be downloaded again, it is stored in a location the operating system may reclaim when storage runs low, and it is excluded from device and cloud backups so your backups stay small.
Temporary records used to resume interrupted model downloads are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to complete or recover the download, then are replaced or removed.
Purchase entitlement state may remain available to the app or purchase-management provider as long as needed to verify, restore, or manage optional paid features.
Third-party providers such as app stores, hosts, content delivery networks, and backup providers keep their own logs and records under their own retention policies, and so does OpenAI for anything you send with Ask ChatGPT.

10. Security

ClickBook relies primarily on device-local storage and the operating system sandbox. The app is designed to avoid unnecessary collection and to keep data local whenever practical.

No mobile app or storage system can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your device, controlling who can unlock it, and managing backup or sharing destinations you choose to use.

11. Your rights

How to delete your ClickBook data. Almost everything ClickBook keeps is on your device; the one record held elsewhere is the purchase record described below.

Data on your device — imported books, reading progress, saved words, settings, and the on-device AI model: delete books in the app, or clear ClickBook's app data, or uninstall ClickBook. This removes it at once, and ClickBook keeps no copy.

Purchase records held for ClickBook by RevenueCat — the anonymous Support ID, purchase and restore history, and records of when the purchase screen was shown: email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my ClickBook data" and include your Support ID. ClickBook shows it on the Your purchase page in Settings, and after a restore that finds no purchase. We delete the record within 30 days and confirm by email. Your purchase itself is kept by Apple or Google under their own policies, for billing and tax, so you can still restore Pro later. If you never bought Pro, the record holds only the random ID and no purchase, and without that ID it cannot be found or linked to you.

Text you sent with Ask ChatGPT is held by OpenAI and is deleted through ChatGPT, under OpenAI's terms. ClickBook sends nothing unless you tap the button; to withdraw your agreement to share with ChatGPT, clear ClickBook's app data or reinstall the app.

Where applicable law gives you rights, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal data, to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Because ClickBook stores most information locally on your device, many privacy choices can be exercised directly on the device itself by deleting books, clearing app data, adjusting settings, or uninstalling the app.

12. Children's privacy

ClickBook is not specifically directed to children under 13. If minors use the app, parental or guardian supervision is recommended, especially when importing files or using AI-generated explanations.

If you believe personal data relating to a child has been processed in a way that raises a privacy concern, contact the controller identified above so appropriate steps can be taken.

13. Changes and contact

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in the app, legal requirements, or distribution practices. The current version will be made available in the Settings area of the app together with its effective date.
